PROGRAMS
July 6 -
POTLUCK, PARTY, AND GENERAL MEETING Come to Bob and Linda’s for a
Fellowship Potluck. Starting time: 3:00 p.m.
Please call Linda and let her know you are coming and what dish you are
bringing for dinner. Bob is not cooking this time, so main dishes as well
as salads, vegetables, or desserts will be appreciated. A brief general
meeting will be held. (NO MEETING AT MATHEWS COTTAGE)
July 13 – BUDDHA AND THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT Do fundamentalist Christians have the right to define Christianity? If not, why not get the definition from Buddhism? Dee Masters returns to present more about this topic . Dee is a teacher at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, he is a philosopher, and he is a friend to our fellowship. Penny Hendricks will moderate.
July 20 – THE REPUBLICAN GOMORRAH: Inside the Movement that Shattered the party. Nola Frame-Grey will share her reading of this book by Max Blumenthal and lead a discussion.
July 27 - ONE NATION, BUT UNDER WHOSE GOD? Mathew Stewart wants to make one thing perfectly clear: The United States was not founded as a Christian nation. The principles that inspired the American Revolution, he argues in Nature’s God: The Heretical Origins of the American Republic,” belong to an intellectual tradition dating back to ancient Greece and reviled by every variety of Christian----early church fathers, Catholic clergy and Protestant divines alike. Maury Garnholz will present this program.

In Loving Memory
Lenore Snodey
Lenore Ilene Yoder Snodey, born in Wakarusa, Indiana on January 2, 1930, and a South Bay resident for more than fifty years, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 after a long illness. A graduate of El Camino Nursing School in 1974 and a registered nurse at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Harbor City for two decades, she also served as volunteer nurse at the Unitarian Universalist de Benneville Pines Camp in Angelus Oaks, California.
A beloved mother, daughter, sister, friend and companion, she was a kind, generous person who loved her life and the people in it, ever expressing delight in the beauty she found around her. Her caring extended to all living things - animals, the planet and especially people in need.
She loved cooking, classical music, theatre, world travel, singing, poetry, pet tortoises and gardening. She also enjoyed board games. Despite her gentle manner, she was described by a close friend as a "ferocious Scrabble player." (More information about Lenore is at http://tinyurl.com/snodey.)
Lenore is survived by her partner of 35 years, Peter Landecker; her four children, David Krizton, Ramona Hill, Victor Snodey and Shoan Snoday; their father, Shonloss Richard Snodey; four grandchildren and two great- granddaughters, all of whom will miss her and love her always.
A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pacific Unitarian Church, 5621 Montemalaga Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. For directions, call (310) 378-9449. The family asks that donations in Lenore's memory be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605 (www.LLS.org) in lieu of flowers. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
