December 2018 Newsletter

“If you approach each new person you meet in a spirit of adventure, you will find yourself endlessly fascinated by the new channels of thought and experience and personality that you encounter.  I do not mean simply the famous people of the world, but people from every walk and condition of life.”     Eleanor Roosevelt

                                               SUNDAY PROGRAMS

December 2 -- Bernie on Economics  Bernie Sanders gives the keynote speech at a gathering of progressive leaders in Vermont.  The gathering is at the Sanders Institute for a weekend seminar.  Chuck Hendricks will show the video.

December 9 -- Remembering Christmas Past  This is a day to share memories of our Holiday experiences.

December 16 -- Holidays and Holy Days  UU Rev. Jon Dobrer, a Starr King and Theological Union graduate, served the UU Church in Fullerton from 1993-2014 retiring in June after 45 years in the ministry.  Jon continues teaching, doing columns for newsgroups, newspapers and writing about our world.  We welcome Jon again.  Penny will moderate.

December 23 – Universalism   We will see a video that documents the development of Universalism from the early German and English pietists to John Murray, Elhanan Winchester and Hosea Ballou.  It details the unprecedented explosion of Universalist churches across America during the first half of the 19th century and discusses why the movement began its precipitous decline after the death of Hosea Ballou in 1850. Lorna McClellan will moderate.

December 30 -- Nepal by Peter Landecker. In September 2018, Peter and Sue spent a wonderful two weeks in Nepal. Nepal is a third world country nestled between China and India and includes the Himalaya mountain range, the tallest in the world. This trip included trekking in the foothills of Annapurna, white water rafting, visiting game parks as well as villages, homes and temples, and seeing how the Nepalese handle their dead. Peter will share beautiful images he recorded while on this adventure. He may also include stories about his visit to UAE on the way home.
